Robinhood Chain Opens Stock Tokens to Builders as Tenev Bets on RWA and Memes
Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev took to X for a 45-minute AMA and dropped a big one: stock tokens are now live on Robinhood Chain, open for any developer to build on. He says no existing chain fit the bill, so Robinhood built its own — aiming to be the go-to home for real-world assets and memes.
Stock tokens are officially live on Robinhood Chain, and developers can start building on them right now. Co-founder and CEO Vlad Tenev made the call during a 45-minute public AMA on X titled “Let's Talk Robinhood Chain,” according to a ChainCatcher report. He framed the rollout as an opening move, not a finished product, promising more updates down the road.
Tenev pitched the stock tokens as permissionless foundational building blocks — open to anyone, not gated behind Robinhood's own walls. They're already interoperable with AI agents, he said. That combination points to a chain where tokenized equities plug into automated, agent-driven tools rather than sitting in a closed loop.
So why build a whole blockchain instead of renting one? Tenev said the team combed through existing ecosystems and found none that fully matched what Robinhood needed. The goal, he explained, is for Robinhood Chain to become the preferred network for real-world assets and meme assets alike. His read: RWA and crypto are converging, and eventually they'll be one and the same.
The chain is already creeping into Robinhood's consumer products. Tenev said on-chain content is being woven into multiple interfaces — a dApp browser and featured Robinhood Chain tokens inside Robinhood Wallet, plus featured token displays in the search and Crypto sections of the main app. That puts chain activity in front of everyday users, not just developers.
The AMA put Robinhood's blockchain ambitions on the record in Tenev's own words, tying a developer-facing infrastructure play to a mainstream retail app. Stock tokens, memes and AI agents in one pitch is an unusually broad bet. The next test is whether builders show up and whether users actually engage with the on-chain features now surfacing in the app.
