Hyundai Lays Out Electric, Hybrid, Hydrogen Roadmap at First Korea Mobility Summit
Hyundai Motor Group is co-hosting the FISITA World Mobility Summit in Hwaseong, Korea — the first time the biennial gathering has landed in the country. R&D chief Manfred Harrer used his keynote to sketch a flexible electrification playbook spanning BEVs, hybrids, range-extenders and hydrogen.
Hyundai Motor Group has taken over the stage in Hwaseong, Korea, co-hosting the FISITA World Mobility Summit 2026 with the International Federation of Automotive Engineering Societies. The two-day event runs Nov. 4–5 at the Rolling Hills Hotel, and it marks the first time the global summit has been held on Korean soil.
The Group didn't come empty-handed. Manfred Harrer, President and Head of the R&D Division, delivered a keynote laying out an electrification strategy that refuses to pick just one lane: battery electric vehicles, hybrids, extended-range electric vehicles and fuel cell electric vehicles all stay in the mix. Harrer framed the roadmap as a way to bend with shifting markets and customer demands rather than bet everything on a single technology.
He also pitched a marriage of old-school engineering and new-school software, saying Hyundai plans to pair its technical chops with AI-driven digital capabilities to build future vehicles. The goal, per Harrer, is stitching different strengths together for a sustainable mobility future.
Chang Hwan Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of the Electrification Energy Solutions Tech Unit, opened the summit by calling the industry's current transition unprecedented. He's also wearing a second hat this week: FISITA President, the first Korean to hold the role. Kim said the Group will keep sharpening its edge in key future mobility technologies and stay plugged into global collaboration.
The summit's theme, “Embracing the Complexities of Mobility,” has attendees chewing over software-defined vehicles, AI, autonomous driving, batteries and energy infrastructure. Executives and tech leaders from across the auto world are trading notes on how electrification is diversifying and where the industry should team up next.
On the show floor, Hyundai is putting hardware where its mouth is — displaying the Genesis GV90 and Hyundai TUCSON alongside a battery pack, a hydrogen tank and a robotics platform. FISITA, founded in 1948, runs the World Mobility Summit every two years to pull together automotive engineering societies and industry experts.
