Zelensky Warns Intelligence Points to Fresh Russian Strikes on Ukraine's Power Grid
Zelensky says he has intelligence showing Russia is preparing another strike on Ukraine's energy facilities, with bridges over the Dnieper and civilian sites also at risk. He's pleading with Western allies to stop delaying Patriot deliveries as Ukraine braces for impact.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Friday he's sitting on intelligence that Russia is readying another hit on Ukraine's energy facilities. In a video address posted to Telegram, he warned that bridges spanning the Dnieper River and civilian infrastructure could also be targets. The Air Force and Armed Forces are preparing to defend, he said, but the task won't be easy.
His message to Western allies was blunt: stop sitting on Patriot deliveries. 'Every agreement is important, every day of delivery is very important,' Zelensky said, urging Ukrainians to stay alert while the missile threat hangs over the country.
Earlier Friday, Zelensky said Kyiv has handed Washington 'realistic' peace agreement proposals ahead of trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi. He thanked the leaders of the Nordic-Baltic Eight for their backing and insisted the European Union must be part of any deal, arguing all European nations 'equally deserve guaranteed security.' The groundwork included a NATO meeting in Brussels and his own contacts with US envoys.
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, speaking at the Council of the Baltic Sea States Ministerial Meeting in Warsaw, said any Russia-Ukraine peace deal must include the EU if it's ever going to be implemented. She warned Ukraine faces another brutal winter as Moscow allegedly targets power stations. The bloc is adding €4.36 billion under its support loan for Ukraine, but Kallas said more is needed — and made clear the EU isn't a mediator, it's firmly on Ukraine's side.
On the Russian side, the FSB arrested a Moscow resident accused of passing information to 'Ukrainian terrorists,' Russian media reported Friday. The security service said the detainee contacted a representative of a Ukrainian paramilitary group online and then identified himself as a member. His communication devices were confiscated and he could face up to twenty years behind bars.
Zelensky also said Friday that Ukraine is scrambling to restore energy supplies after recent Russian strikes on its infrastructure. Kyiv is the worst off, with people and businesses facing prolonged power and water outages that he called extremely serious. The government is pouring in additional resources to fix what it can.
