TikTok quietly drops a standalone Shop app in four Asian markets
TikTok has quietly rolled out a dedicated TikTok Shop app in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines, giving its e-commerce arm a home of its own. The move puts the company in more direct competition with Amazon and Temu — and signals a bigger bet on social shopping.
TikTok has spun its shopping business into an app of its own. The standalone TikTok Shop app quietly went live in select markets, offering personalized product recommendations, live-stream and short-video shopping, app-exclusive deals, in-app checkout, order tracking and customer support. Social media consultant Matt Navarra was the first to spot it, according to TechCrunch.
The rollout covers Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines on both iOS and Android. TikTok stayed silent when TechCrunch asked about the launch, and there's no word yet on whether the app will travel further — including to the United States.
Pulling Shop out of the main app matters. It gives TikTok a destination that reaches shoppers who may never open the flagship platform, and it lets the company chase Amazon and Temu on their own turf. If the app ever lands in the U.S., Walmart and Target join that pile — retailers whose customers already order straight from their phones.
TikTok is sweetening the deal to keep people inside the new app rather than the main one. Per the app's description, users get free shipping offers, exclusive first-order perks and what it bills as secure payments for safe checkout.
There's a neat symmetry here. Amazon once built Inspire, a TikTok-style short-video feed, to pull eyeballs away from rivals and push sales onto its own platform. Now TikTok is running the same play in reverse, using a commerce app to steer purchases into its ecosystem.
The launch is one more step in TikTok's slow stretch beyond social media. The company has already stacked up games, restaurant guides, sports hubs, hotel booking and microdramas, and it's poking at payments too.
