Thailand to cut off Bitget on Dec. 5 and files criminal complaint against its operator
Thailand's SEC has filed a criminal complaint against BG Limited, the company behind Bitget, accusing the exchange of trading crypto without a license. Regulators told the digital ministry to block Bitget's website, related domains and app from Dec. 5, and users are being told to sort out their assets before the plug gets pulled.
Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission is done playing nice with Bitget. The regulator filed a criminal complaint against BG Limited, the exchange's operator, over allegations it ran a crypto trading business without a license, and it wants the platform walled off in the country.
The block lands Dec. 5. The SEC says it has already notified the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society to cut access to Bitget's website, its other associated domains and its mobile app, giving Thai users a hard deadline to deal with anything they are holding on the platform.
According to the SEC, Bitget offered crypto trading services in Thailand between 2022 and 2025, collected trading fees and pushed those services through Thai-language websites and social media channels. The regulator says that mix ran straight into Thailand's digital asset business licensing rules.
The complaint went to Thailand's Economic Crime Suppression Division for investigation. Prosecutors will decide whether charges actually get filed, and it will ultimately be up to the courts to determine criminal liability.
Thailand has had the legal tools for this since a 2025 decree handed the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society the power to restrict access to unlicensed crypto trading platforms, part of a push to shield investors and fight financial crime.
Bitget did not immediately respond to Cointelegraph's request for comment, so there is no company response yet on the allegations or the looming cutoff.
