Shein drops €500m on Poland hub, staffing it to 10,000
Shein is pouring €500m (£417m) into its Wroclaw logistics hub, expanding warehouse space by 25% and adding over 6,500 robots, with headcount there reaching 10,000 by year's end. It takes Shein's total Poland spend since 2022 to €1bn, as retailers absorb the EU's new €3 customs charge.
Shein is doubling down on Poland. The fast-fashion giant said on 4 November it's sinking €500m (£417m) into its Wroclaw logistics hub, a buildout it calls one of Europe's most advanced ecommerce facilities. By the end of the calendar year, the site's headcount will hit 10,000.
The money buys space and speed. Warehouse footprint grows 25%, pushing the facility past 1 million square metres, and more than 6,500 autonomous robots will be wheeling around the floor. Shein also says it will lean on an ecosystem of over 230 Polish small and medium-sized businesses supplying goods and services to the operation.
Stack it up and Poland has now soaked up €1bn (£833m) from Shein since 2022. The company frames the country as a cornerstone of its European push. "Europe is a key market for Shein, and we are committed to investing in the infrastructure and capabilities needed to support our long-term growth across the region," said Leonard Lin, Shein's global head of public affairs and president for EMEA.
The timing is not subtle. Online retailers are still absorbing the €3 (£2.50) customs duty that landed on 1 July for low-value shipments under €150 (£125) coming from outside the EU. A bigger, robot-heavy hub inside Europe helps Shein move parcels faster and swallow that friction.
Local goodwill is clearly part of the play. Michal Kania, Shein's Poland public affairs director, touted thousands of jobs and hundreds of Polish businesses supported, calling the country a long-term strategic partner. Lin echoed the sentiment, pointing to Polish workers and the business environment as reasons for confidence.
The expanded hub also feeds Shein Marketplace, the platform where European brands and retailers sell alongside the company's own goods. More capacity in Wroclaw means shorter hops to shoppers across the continent, and a sturdier base for whatever comes next.
