CPSC recalls 6M coffee makers and 300K space heaters over burn and fire risks
A fresh batch of recalls from the Consumer Product Safety Commission covers about 6 million Bodum French presses, 338,800-plus DREO space heaters, 11,000 fire-prone HAIARA power banks and more. The defects have already caused burns, fires, a broken jaw and a carbon monoxide risk — and most refunds require a photo first. Check your home. Corrections or clarifications? We welcome them. Check the kitchen, the bedroom and the garage. The Consumer Product Safety Commission dropped a wave of recalls last week covering everything from six million French presses to a fleet of space heaters that catch fire, and the agency wants shoppers at Amazon, Walmart, Target and Costco to start looking now. The hazards range from burns and house fires to carbon monoxide leaks and furniture that tips onto kids.
Bodum USA is pulling roughly 6 million French press coffee makers after the glass carafes shattered mid-brew. The New York importer has logged 70 reports of breaking carafes and 48 burn injuries, according to the CPSC. The recall covers 8-cup and 12-cup models, including the Bistro, Brazil, Caffettiera, Chambord, Crema, Java, Jesper and Kenya lines sold for $15 to $65 at Target, Walmart, coffee shops, home goods stores and online. Stop stirring with metal spoons — Bodum will ship a free repair kit with a plastic spoon and a fresh warning label. Reach the company at 888-879-8213 or [email protected].
Fire risk is the theme elsewhere. HAIARA's W5 PRO power banks, more than 11,000 of them sold on Amazon for $18 to $22, drew 600 reports of fires and other thermal incidents, including three burn injuries and nine cases of property damage, per the CPSC. China-based seller Mitrytech is offering full refunds, but buyers have to write the word “recalled” on the device in permanent marker and send a photo in first. Then there's the DREO DR-HSH015 ceramic space heater: Hesung Innovation Corp voluntarily recalled about 338,800 units in the U.S. and another 36,300 in Canada after 17 reports of overheating and igniting, with at least three damaging fires and one burned hand. Those heaters went out through Costco, Home Depot, Best Buy, Kohl's, Lowe's, QVC, Dreo.com and B2BRenew.com, and owners must cut the cord and photograph the dead unit to get a replacement.
Two recalls carry quieter but nastier dangers. About 32,000 Jocoevol six-drawer dressers, made by Yinklev and sold only on Amazon for roughly $160, can tip over and trap a child — no injuries reported yet, but the CPSC says unanchored units should be moved away from kids immediately. And roughly 4,726 NTI and HTP gas boilers from Ariston are under recall after 34 reports of an internal condensate dish cracking, with three cases of the front cover blasting off; one servicing technician walked away with a broken jaw. The affected units are NTI's FTVN and TFTN series in gray cabinets and HTP's EFTU series in black.
For the boilers, Ariston is scheduling free repairs by certified technicians at 800-688-2575 or [email protected]. Anyone still running one while they wait should make sure smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working. The recall covers units sold through independent heating and plumbing contractors and wholesale distributors nationwide.
Rounding out the list, about 11,000 bottles of RootStim minoxidil hair regrowth treatment sold on Amazon are being recalled over what the CPSC describes as a risk of serious injury or death from child poisoning, citing a violation of federal child-resistant packaging standards under the Poison Prevention Packaging Act. Three RootStim products containing minoxidil are affected. The pattern across all six recalls is the same: stop using the product, then follow the specific refund or repair steps — most of which require a photo and permanent marker before anything ships back.
