Saudi airstrike flattens home in Yemen's Taiz, killing seven residents

A Saudi military aircraft struck a home in western Taiz, killing seven residents, according to Iran's Tasnim news agency, which cited Yemen's Health Ministry. Two of the dead were children. Six other minors were wounded in the strike.

The reported toll has not been independently confirmed, and it lands in the middle of a running exchange of fire between Saudi forces and Yemen's Houthi movement. Both sides have been trading drone and missile attacks across the border for months.

Just a day earlier, the Houthis said they intercepted and destroyed an armed Saudi reconnaissance drone over Taiz, claiming it was carrying out what spokesman Yahya Saree called hostile activities in the area. Saree says it is the 27th drone the group has brought down since July 3.

On the other side of the ledger, Saudi-led Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen spokesman Turki al-Maliki said the alliance intercepted and destroyed a Houthi drone launched toward Saudi Arabia's south. The coalition also reported taking out drones over Riyadh and the Mecca region in the same stretch of days.

The Houthis have claimed hits on Abha International Airport in Asir province and a ballistic missile strike on Khamis Mushait Air Base, with Saree calling the airport attack precise and saying it disrupted air traffic. Saudi-backed forces and the Yemeni group remain locked in heavy clashes across western and northwestern Yemen.

With neither side showing signs of backing off, civilians in Taiz and border communities in southern Saudi Arabia keep absorbing the fallout — and the drone tally keeps climbing.
