Russian Strike Hammers Kyiv Power Sites and Bridge, Five Hurt

Kyiv woke up to damage on multiple fronts. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said overnight Russian strikes hit energy facilities in the Kyiv and Zhytomyr regions, knocked out the Northern Bridge, and left five people injured in the capital — among them a 14-year-old child. Two of the wounded are in hospital.

The Northern Bridge took a direct hit, according to Klitschko, who posted on Telegram that traffic is shut down in both directions. He described Kyiv's energy supply situation as quote, extremely difficult.

The attack wasn't a surprise to everyone. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Friday he had intelligence warning of an incoming Russian strike on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, with bridges over the Dnieper River and civilian sites also flagged as possible targets. He told allies the defense job would not be easy and pressed Western partners not to delay deliveries of Patriot air defense systems.

The strike lands in the middle of a frantic diplomatic stretch. Zelensky said Kyiv has handed the United States realistic peace proposals ahead of trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi, and he argued the European Union must be part of any agreement. US President Donald Trump told reporters he believes Russia and Ukraine want to settle for the first time, calling it a very big settlement involving all of Europe.

Broader reporting paints a rough weekend for the capital. Kyiv's military administration said a separate Russian strike on Saturday injured at least two people, sparked a fire in a non-residential building, and damaged a kindergarten in the Solomenskyi district, while Ukrainian outlet Suspilne News reported repeated explosions across the city.
