Revolut Pledges $1 Billion to Latam Push, With Brazil Leading the Charge
Revolut is putting at least $1 billion behind its Latin America expansion, betting one in four customers it signs up in 2027 will come from the region. Brazil is the crown jewel, but Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Argentina are all in the plan — and Chile is next on the list.
Revolut has committed a minimum of $1 billion to Latin America, a war chest it says could swell if the opportunities keep coming. The British fintech and crypto firm is betting big on the region from 2027 onward, and it expects a quarter of all new customers that year to come from Latam. Brazil is already its biggest growth market, and the company wants the rails in place to keep those users around.
The money will flow toward Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Argentina — markets where Revolut already runs, or is about to. Peru is in the final stretch of securing a full banking license, and Mexico just handed over a similar approval. Colombia is next up, with Revolut already building a waitlist ahead of launch.
Carlos Urrutia, Revolut's general manager of international expansion, told investors the billion is a floor, not a ceiling. "This is not the maximum value. It's a number we're committed to for now, and that could grow as we see that markets need more," he said. Glauber Mota, who runs Revolut in Brazil, echoed the sentiment, calling the company healthy with a solid balance sheet and ready to speed up wherever the numbers justify it.
So why Latam? Revolut says it weighed four factors: regulators open to newcomers, a young and large population, appetite for digital services, and ties to markets it already knows. Urrutia reckons the region ticks every box. Beyond the core five, Chile is firmly on the radar — Urrutia wouldn't give a date, but said it's a question of when, not if.
One thing Revolut won't be doing is buying its way in. Urrutia stressed the company will build everything in-house rather than snap up local players, keeping technology and standards under its own roof. With traditional fintech and crypto markets looking crowded, Latam is where Revolut sees room to run.
