Iran claims 228 American bases wrecked across the region
An Iranian army spokesman says more than 200 US bases and facilities in the region are badly damaged or destroyed, and that Washington will never be allowed to rebuild them. It lands as Trump's team reportedly splits over whether to keep talking to Tehran or go back to full-scale combat.
Iran's army is making a loud claim. Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia, an army spokesperson, said more than two hundred American bases and facilities across the region have been seriously damaged or completely destroyed, according to Fars News Agency. In his telling, the US military can no longer run operations from local sites at all.
Akraminia didn't stop at the damage report. He said Tehran will never permit enemy bases in the region to be rebuilt, and claimed no US sites are left locally to carry out operational missions — forcing troops to haul in supplies and vessel fuel from outside the area. Those assertions come from Iran's side and haven't been independently confirmed.
The rhetoric collides with a White House that can't settle on a lane. Trump's advisory team is sharply divided after midterm election losses, split between diplomacy and resuming large-scale military action against Iran, the Wall Street Journal reported. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and CENTCOM chief Admiral Brad Cooper have backed a return to major combat operations, while Qatar works to head off another escalation. Vice President JD Vance has been personally involved in indirect talks with Iran.
Trump himself was cagey about reported strikes on Qeshm Island. Asked whether the US was responsible, he declined to answer directly and described a limited campaign of what he called minor strikes — claiming the US knocked out an anti-aircraft device in 15 minutes, maybe five. He also floated that Washington could be considered an occupier in the conflict.
Qatar, meanwhile, is swatting down rumors about its mediation. Its International Media Office called reports that Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani declared US-Iran talks a failure false and misleading, blaming fake accounts trying to undermine diplomacy and push escalation. Doha said its mediators remain in close coordination with both Washington and Tehran.
Iran's own broadcasts are adding fuel. IRIB reported that a US MQ9 drone was intercepted and destroyed over Qeshm Island using the army's modern air defense systems under the country's integrated network — following earlier reports of explosions and missile impacts around Qeshm and Bandar Khamir, an area the US had described as relatively calm.
