GM recalls 67,380 Cadillac and Chevy EVs over brake software that can cut out
GM is recalling 67,380 Cadillac and Chevy EVs after a software glitch in the brake system control module can cause a brief loss of braking. NHTSA filings link 24 complaints, 20 minor crashes and two alleged minor injuries to the defect. A free over-the-air or dealer software fix is on the way.
General Motors is pulling 67,380 Cadillac and Chevy EVs off the road — well, onto the update queue — over a brake software bug that can make the pedal go quiet for a moment. GM laid it out in an October 29 letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The fix is a free software rewrite, delivered either over the air or at a dealer.
The trigger conditions are oddly specific. Tap the brakes lightly mid-sharp-turn while the car rolls over a bump, and the brake system control module's slip calculation can misread how the wheels are moving. GM says that, in some cases, can cause a temporary loss of braking. Only pAWD builds are caught up in it, including certain Cadillac Lyriq, Celestiq and Vistiq models plus the Chevy Blazer EV.
The paper trail starts with a low-speed crash: a 2024 Cadillac Lyriq ran into a garage. On April 10, 2026, a GM technical expert filed a report through the company's Speak Up for Safety program. Internal testing reproduced the glitch — and GM notes it looks a lot like a recall it ran back in 2024.
NHTSA filings show 24 field complaints tied to the problem, logged between February 24, 2024 and June 11, 2026. Twenty of those involved minor accidents, and two included allegations of minor injuries. GM says it has already been baking software corrections into production over the past few months.
Owner notification letters are slated to hit mailboxes on December 14, 2026. Until then, Cadillac owners can call 1-800-333-4223 and Chevy owners 1-800-222-1020. GM's recall number is N262570900; the NHTSA campaign number is 26V717, and the agency's hotline is 1-888-327-4236.
