Explosion rocks Ukraine's Lutsk as blasts also reported in Vinnytsia region

An explosion was heard in Lutsk, a city in northwestern Ukraine, on Sunday local time, Suspilne News reported, citing its own correspondent. The outlet added on Telegram that explosions also rang out in the Vinnytsia region, without giving any further detail. No word yet on casualties or damage from either location.

The blasts follow a deadly strike on the port city of Odesa in southwestern Ukraine, where one person was killed and the city's infrastructure was damaged, according to the head of the city's military administration, speaking to Suspilne Novosti. Officials offered no additional information on that attack.

Air raid alarms are in force across the Vinnytsia and Chernihiv regions, per the outlet. The reports of new explosions arrived within hours of the Odesa strike, keeping swaths of the country under alert.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky used a Saturday video address on X to press Western allies for more support packages, saying Kyiv still lacks Patriot defense systems and has taken what he called significant hits as a result. He warned that Ukraine's energy sector will be targeted in the coming months, making winter extremely difficult, but noted the country will be represented in several diplomatic formats in November, including the G7 and the Coalition of the Willing.

Separately, Russia's Defense Ministry claimed Saturday that its air defense forces downed 28 Ukrainian aircraft-type drones over a 12-hour stretch. In a Telegram post, the ministry said the UAVs were taken out over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk and Oryol regions.
