EVgo fires up its first Tesla Superchargers in a Chicago parking lot

EVgo has plugged in its first Tesla Superchargers, and they're humming in a Chicago grocery store parking lot. The station at Riverside Square & River's Edge, 3145 S Ashland Avenue, packs 12 fast-charging stalls, according to Electrek. It's the opening move in a plan to roll out hundreds of Tesla Supercharger stalls across the US. The stalls are branded "EVgo Superchargers" and run at 325 kW. That's a step below the up-to-500 kW figure EVgo floated when it announced the rollout back in August. EVgo owns and names the chargers; Tesla runs and maintains them. Magic Dock is doing the heavy lifting here. It means both NACS and CCS vehicles can juice up without carrying an adapter. Non-Tesla drivers with compatible EVs kick off a session through the Tesla app, while Tesla owners simply see the station in their car's navigation and Trip Planner. Other EVgo fast chargers with NACS plugs have been surfacing in Tesla navigation since early September, provided third-party charging is switched on. CEO Badar Khan framed the dual-plug play as a market grab. "By serving both Tesla and non-Tesla NACS drivers, we're doubling EVgo's addressable market and continuing to meet EV drivers where they are and where they want to charge," he said. The first sites are landing at Regency Centers shopping plazas built around grocery stores. There's more hardware coming. EVgo is bolting NACS plugs onto its regular fast-charging network, a push that kicked off in 2025, and it wants 500 of those stalls nationwide by the end of 2026, with Supercharger stalls tallied separately. Over the next two years, the company aims to put at least one NACS plug at every EVgo site built in 2023 or later. Electrek also notes EVgo's 750 kW charging system is slated for 2027.
