CZ tells crypto rivals to quit the infighting: decentralized, but united
Changpeng Zhao is calling for an end to crypto's internal squabbling, arguing that tokens move together so attacks on one project hurt everyone. His plea follows a brutal stretch of exchange breaches, including a $6.34 billion hack at his own former company, Binance, on Oct. 29.
Changpeng Zhao wants the crypto world to stop sniping at itself. The former Binance CEO took to X to argue that digital assets rise and fall as one pack, so turf wars between rival camps are pointless. His sign-off was blunt: crypto should be decentralized, but united.
CZ was responding to a post that tallied up how exchange disasters ripple through token prices — FTX's 2022 collapse, the 2024 WazirX hack and the recent security breach at Bitget. The thread also pointed to the massive Binance hack on Oct. 29, which made his unity pitch land with extra weight.
That Binance breach is among the largest the industry has seen in recent memory. Hackers got into the exchange's internal wallet signing infrastructure on Oct. 29, a $6.34 billion hit that dragged on Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP and Solana alike. Binance has said it will swallow the losses instead of handing them to customers — and per its Nov. 3 update, roughly $2.85 billion in stolen funds has been frozen or intercepted, with 98% of affected token assets topped back up.
Since then, CZ has turned his feed into a running security advisory. On Nov. 5 he told traders to revoke their API keys for third-party trading platform SignalPlus after reports of a possible breach. He also flagged fake sites impersonating Trust Wallet, warning followers not to confuse shady '.cam' domains with the real '.com', and pushed iPhone users to update their OS over vulnerabilities that could expose crypto holders to attacks.
His unity message arrives as the sector digests both the scale of the Binance incident and the speed of the recovery effort. The subtext is hard to miss: when one exchange bleeds, everyone's portfolio feels it. CZ's answer is fewer internal fights and more shared defense.
