Schroders Takes Emerging Markets Bonds On-Chain With Solana and Centrifuge

Schroders is taking its Emerging Markets Bond strategy on-chain. The $1.1 trillion asset manager is doing it on Solana, working through tokenization platform Centrifuge, according to an exclusive from CoinDesk's Krisztian Sandor.

That's a bigger leap than it sounds. Most institutional tokenization so far has parked in money market funds — short-term, low-drama, easy to wrap in a token. Schroders is instead letting an actively managed fixed income strategy run on a public blockchain, aimed at developing markets.

The move puts a heavyweight traditional name on Solana's rails, a network better known for retail trading speed than for pension-fund plumbing. Centrifuge provides the tokenization layer that gets the strategy packaged and issued on-chain.

Actively managed emerging market debt is a different beast from a tokenized T-bill fund. It needs trading, rebalancing and manager discretion — the kind of machinery tokenization platforms have been working to prove they can handle at institutional scale, as CoinDesk reported.

The pitch to asset managers is straightforward: broader distribution, faster settlement and a 24/7 market for products that used to live behind layers of intermediaries. Whether emerging market bond exposure draws the same appetite as cash-like tokens is the open question.

Neither Schroders nor Centrifuge has shared fee details or an exact launch timeline in the report. For now, the headline is the direction: tokenization is creeping from money market funds into the messier, higher-yield side of fixed income.
