BYD's new Great Han sedan clocks 4,000 sales in its first 19 days
BYD's flagship Great Han EV has already sold 4,000 units in the 19 days since its October 13 debut. The sedan pairs up to 1,008 km of CLTC range with five-minute fast charging and a roughly $35,000 starting price. At this rate, BYD could top 10,000 sales in its first full month.
BYD's newest flagship sedan is off to a flyer. The Great Han — sold as the Da Han in China — racked up 4,000 sales in the 19 days since its October 13 launch, according to Electrek. At that pace, the electric D-segment sedan could sail past 10,000 units in its first full month on the market.
The car sits at the top of BYD's Dynasty lineup and starts at 235,900 yuan, roughly $35,000, across three variants. The rear-wheel-drive Premium trim claims up to 1,008 km (626 miles) of CLTC range, while the all-wheel-drive Flagship version is rated at 880 km (546 miles). Both run a 102.326 kWh Blade 2.0 pack — with a single 370 kW (496 hp) motor in the RWD car, or that plus a 200 kW (268 hp) front unit for 570 kW (764 hp) combined in the AWD.
Charging is the headline trick. BYD's Flash Charging tech and second-generation Blade batteries let the Great Han go from 10% to 70% in five minutes, and from 10% to 97% in nine, the company says. It also packs a roof-mounted LiDAR running God's Eye B, BYD's more advanced driver-assist system, with Navigate on Autopilot in cities and on highways plus remote autonomous parking. DiSus-A dual-chamber air suspension, rear-wheel steering and zero-gravity front seats come standard.
Size-wise, the Great Han stretches 5,256 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,510 mm tall on a 3,130 mm wheelbase. That makes it a touch bigger than a Tesla Model S or Lucid Air, and closer to a long-wheelbase Mercedes-Benz S-Class. BYD says its blend of features and price has locked it into the mid-to-high-end sedan segment above 250,000 yuan, about $37,500.
The launch lands with BYD already sprinting. The automaker moved more than 300,000 EVs last month — more than the entire US market managed in the third quarter combined. Through October, year-over-year sales were up 6%. The Great Han also has a big sibling to chase: the Great Tang SUV notched 14,000 sales in October, its fourth straight month above 10,000.
