BitGo Turns On Bitcoin Staking via Stacks for Institutional Custody Clients
BitGo is switching on Bitcoin staking through Stacks, letting eligible institutional custody clients earn BTC rewards. The twist: the coins stay put in BitGo Bank & Trust custody the whole time.
BitGo is letting institutions stake their Bitcoin. The custody firm rolled out Bitcoin staking through Stacks, according to Cointelegraph, opening the door for eligible institutional custody clients to earn BTC rewards.
The catch — or rather, the selling point — is that the coins don't leave home. Clients keep their Bitcoin parked inside BitGo Bank & Trust custody while the rewards stack up.
That custody-first framing matters for the institutional crowd, which tends to want yield without handing assets to a third party. BitGo is pitching the setup as earning on Bitcoin while it stays under the same roof.
Bitcoin's base layer runs on proof-of-work, so staking isn't native to it. Stacks, a Bitcoin layer, is the rail BitGo chose to make the rewards possible.
The announcement didn't spell out which clients qualify as eligible or when the service goes live. BitGo Bank & Trust is the entity holding the keys throughout.
