Bitcoin Slips as US Votes and Binance Climbs Out of a $6.3B Hack
Crypto markets sagged on Election Day, with Bitcoin at $77,282.72 and the total market cap down 0.94% to $2.6 trillion. US Bitcoin and Ether ETFs shed $539.8 million on November 2, while Binance kept restoring withdrawals after an estimated $6.3 billion breach.
Crypto traders went to their screens with one eye on the polls Tuesday. Bitcoin changed hands at $77,282.72, down 0.72% over 24 hours, while Ether eased 0.1% to $2,283.15. The total market cap slipped 0.94%, landing at $2.6 trillion, according to CoinMarketCap data at 14:00 UTC.
The ETF crowd wasn't sticking around either. US spot Bitcoin and Ether funds posted combined net outflows of $539.8 million on November 2, split between $398.6 million leaving Bitcoin products and $138.3 million exiting Ether funds. The flow data shows the exits — it doesn't prove whether election nerves, exchange security fears, or something else pushed investors out.
Binance offered the first flicker of good news since its October 29 breach, estimated at $6.3 billion. The exchange said hourly deposits overtook withdrawals by 03:00 UTC on November 3, two days after it began bringing withdrawal services back in phases. The bigger picture is still ugly: between 06:00 UTC on November 1 and 04:00 UTC on November 3, $10.97 billion flowed out against $5.695 billion in deposits, a net drain of roughly $5.28 billion.
Binance has widened the doors gradually, reopening 34 additional assets on Ethereum and 22 on Solana, with more assets and networks promised after security and operational checks. There's still no firm deadline for full withdrawal service. The Crypto Times also reported that Binance carries no cyber insurance for the $6.3 billion hack, leaving the question of who absorbs the losses wide open.
Voters are deciding plenty that matters to crypto. All 435 House seats and 35 of the Senate's 100 seats are on the ballot, per USA.gov, and the results settle which party runs each chamber. That matters because lawmakers are weighing the regulatory framework for digital assets and the wider financial system — the balance of power will shape committee leadership, legislative priorities, and agency oversight, though it won't hand anyone a guaranteed crypto bill.
Zoom out and the market has been leaking for weeks. The $2.6 trillion cap sits below the $2.68 trillion from a week ago and the $2.87 trillion from a month ago, and well under the $3.57 trillion yearly high set on November 11, 2025. Bitcoin's market cap stands near $1.55 trillion with 24-hour volume up 49.44% at $24.96 billion, while Ether's cap is $278.97 billion on volume that fell 6.52% to $8.65 billion. Election results, ETF flows, and Binance's phased recovery now collide in the same week — and traders get to price all three at once.
