Anthropic targets 3.5 GW of compute by end of 2026, eyes 10 GW in 2027
Anthropic expects more than 3.5 GW of computing capacity online by the end of 2026, up from an estimated 1.4 GW a year earlier, with plans to roughly double again to 9.5–10 GW in 2027. The filing behind it shows $895.4B in non-cancelable commitments against nearly $17B in quarterly revenue and a $23.3B net loss.
Anthropic says it will have more than 3.5 gigawatts of computing capacity humming by the end of 2026, per an amended S-1 filing dated November 2, 2026. That's a power-plant-sized number for a company that sells software. For context, the Claude maker was tracking toward roughly 1.4 GW by the end of 2025, so the 2026 target means more than doubling in about a year.
And it doesn't stop there. Anthropic is planning to roughly double its footprint again in 2027, aiming for somewhere between 9.5 and 10 GW by the close of that year. Getting there leans on a patchwork of cloud, chip and data center deals. A Google and Broadcom arrangement covers about 3.5 GW of TPU capacity starting in 2027, while Amazon Web Services has an agreement for up to 5 GW of its Trainium chips.
All that hardware comes with a receipt. Anthropic disclosed $895.4 billion in non-cancelable purchase commitments and lease agreements, mostly tied to compute and infrastructure, reflecting its position as of late September 2026. Another estimated $150–175 billion in arrangements sits on top of that. Non-cancelable is the phrase to circle: these are obligations Anthropic pays no matter how demand shakes out.
The revenue is climbing, just nowhere near that scale. Anthropic booked nearly $17 billion in Q3 2026 revenue, up from $11.56 billion the quarter before. The same period also brought a net loss of $23.3 billion, which leaves little cushion if AI demand cools or rivals ship comparable models for less.
Strategy-wise, Anthropic is widening its chip base beyond Nvidia GPUs, embracing custom silicon like Google's TPUs and Amazon's Trainium. It's also hunting for smaller data center sites alongside its mega-deals, since compact builds can go live faster than sprawling campuses — a real edge when every quarter of delay hands capacity to competitors.
Backing the effort are Amazon, Google and Microsoft, several of which double as the cloud providers selling Anthropic its compute. The filing itself is a milestone, dragging numbers like the $895.4 billion commitment into public view. The immediate read for the sector: nobody signs that much in binding commitments without betting customers keep showing up — and cloud and chip players like AWS, Google and Broadcom stand to collect.
