Russia says it struck dry-cargo vessel carrying military supplies to Odesa
Russia's Defense Ministry said Monday its drones struck Ukrainian Black Sea port infrastructure, hitting a dry-cargo vessel it said was carrying military supplies to Odesa. Moscow did not disclose the vessel's fate. The strike is part of a recent escalation against Ukrainian ports and shipping, as Ukrainian officials reported deadly attacks on Kharkiv region and widespread power outages.
Russia's Defense Ministry said Monday that its drones struck Ukrainian port infrastructure on the Black Sea coast, hitting a dry-cargo vessel it said was carrying military supplies to Odesa. The ministry did not say what happened to the ship, but said the strike took place earlier in the day. Moscow has recently stepped up attacks on Ukrainian ports and vessels in an effort to block supplies from reaching Ukraine's armed forces.
The vessel strike came amid a wider wave of Russian attacks. Ukrainian Internal Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi said three people — two women and a child — were killed when a drone hit a park in the Kharkiv region. The attack occurred in Nova Vodolaha, a rural settlement in eastern Kharkiv Oblast, and at least 14 more people, including seven children, were injured, Vyhivskyi said on Telegram. "Another Russian strike on civilians. An attack on children that made no military sense," he said.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said overnight strikes damaged more than 10 energy infrastructure facilities across Ukraine, leaving at least 550,000 families without electricity. The attacks hit energy sites in 11 regions, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa and Mykolaiv, he said in a post on X, adding that repair crews were working at the damaged sites. Zelensky accused Moscow of undermining efforts to end the war, saying Kyiv had backed "literally EVERY" ceasefire proposal.
Zelensky also reported "delays in certain types of vital supplies" from the United States Department of War, following a coordination call with military officials. He said an additional meeting would be held Monday to review the results of contacts with partners, and ordered the Foreign Ministry to engage Baltic states on logistics support. The latest wave of Russian strikes damaged Ukrainian critical facilities, he said.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said a meeting involving U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping could help end the war sooner, but that including Russia would only encourage Vladimir Putin to prolong the conflict. "Inviting Putin to such a meeting would feed his appetite for self-aggrandizement and give him a stature he does not deserve," Sybiha said. He called Putin a war criminal and described Russia as "a global problem."
