Russia Says It Hit Ukrainian Military Sites Overnight as Kyiv Reports 15 Injured
Russia's Defense Ministry said its forces carried out a massive overnight strike on Ukrainian military infrastructure using precision ground weapons and drones. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported at least 15 people injured in the capital, while Moscow's mayor said hundreds of drones were downed heading toward the Russian capital.
Russia's Defense Ministry said on Thursday that its military carried out what it described as a massive overnight strike on Ukrainian military infrastructure, according to a Telegram post cited by Breaking The News. The ministry said high-precision ground-based weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles were used against military-industrial complex facilities across Ukraine. It also listed transport infrastructure in Kyiv, port infrastructure in the Odessa region and several army vessels as targets.
In Kyiv, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said at least 15 people were injured in the overnight attacks, with eight of them still hospitalized. Writing on Telegram, Klitschko said an ambulance station and six emergency vehicles were damaged in the city's Pecherskyi district, adding that no medical personnel were hurt. Part of the metro infrastructure on the Southern Bridge was also damaged, he said.
The Kyiv military administration said the assault sparked a fire in a restaurant building and damaged a building belonging to a medical institution, according to Breaking The News. The administration issued an air raid alert over a missile threat during the attacks.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said 630 drones flew toward the Moscow region between 8:30 pm local time on October 21 and 4:00 am local time on October 22. Most were intercepted by Russian air defenses at greater distances from the capital, he said, with 163 neutralized as they approached Moscow. Two people were injured in the Voronovo area of the Troitsky and Novomoskovsky administrative districts.
In an earlier series of statements, Sobyanin said Russian air defenses shot down 90 drones heading toward Moscow across five successive operations, initially destroying five, followed by another 20, 21, 10, 12 and 22. Emergency services were dispatched to the sites where debris fell, he added.
