HKMA's EnsembleTX Goes 24/7 for Tokenized Deposit Settlement

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has widened EnsembleTX to settle tokenized deposits around the clock, killing the old banking-hours cutoff for interbank transactions on the platform. The network now counts 12 participating banks plus 20 outfits it labels 'other industry pioneers.' Settlement rides on tokenized central bank money, including wholesale central bank digital currency, or wCBDC.

Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited, one of those participating banks, opened a related service to corporate clients in Hong Kong the same week. That offering runs on the bank's own blockchain infrastructure and hooks into EnsembleTX. The bank says eligible corporate treasury teams, banks, investment platforms and digital asset firms can use commercial bank deposits inside digital treasury and investment workflows, including managing liquidity across corporate groups.

The 24/7 switch matters because tokenized deposits only become useful if they can move when the market moves, not when the settlement window happens to be open. Continuous interbank settlement removes that bottleneck for institutions building digital-asset and treasury products on top of the rails.

There's already live traffic to point at. China AMC, Finloop and PantherTrade have together taken part in live tokenized deposit transactions and tokenized money market fund settlements through EnsembleTX, according to tokenpost.com.

Hong Kong has been steadily stitching traditional banking into blockchain settlement infrastructure, and EnsembleTX is its main testbed. With Standard Chartered pushing the corporate side and the HKMA opening the pipes 24/7, the next thing to watch is how many more banks and asset managers join the roster.
