Xpeng has launched the Mona L03 in Australia and New Zealand, its third model in those markets after the X9 and G6. The SUV is offered with battery-electric and extended-range powertrains and starts at A$41,900 in Australia and NZ$49,900 in New Zealand. It is Xpeng's first model to bring advanced driver assistance to overseas markets, according to the company.
Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV) has expanded its presence in Australia and New Zealand with the launch of the Mona L03, the third model it has brought to those countries after the X9 and G6. The Chinese EV maker announced the rollout on Weibo on Sunday, according to cnevpost.com. The SUV is priced from A$41,900 ($29,250) in Australia and NZ$49,900 ($27,980) in New Zealand.
Xpeng describes the Mona L03 as its first model to bring advanced driver assistance to overseas markets, fitted with its second-generation VLA (Vision-Language-Action) system. The company said in July that driving assistance features comparable to Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) FSD were scheduled to reach Australia in 2027. The L03 is available in both markets with either an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) or battery electric vehicle (BEV) powertrain.
The EREV variant is Xpeng's first model using its Kunpeng extended-range technology to arrive in Australia and New Zealand. It pairs a 37.2-kWh battery with a 1.5-liter engine, delivering a WLTP electric range of 215 kilometers and a combined range of 1,017 kilometers. Its electric motor produces up to 178 kW, allowing 0-100 km/h acceleration in 6.8 seconds. The vehicle supports DC fast charging at up to 123 kW, charging from 10% to 80% in 20 minutes, and offers 6-kW V2L capability.
The Mona L03 measures 4,650 millimeters long with a 2,850-millimeter wheelbase. Standard equipment includes 18-inch wheels and the Xpilot Assist driver assistance system, with adaptive cruise control and lane centering. The launch supports Xpeng's renewed Australian push, after it unveiled a long-term strategy in Melbourne in July that included plans for five new models over six months, three flagship experience centers and up to 50 sales outlets.
Xpeng entered Australia in May 2024, with the G6 SUV launching in the fourth quarter of that year, while the X9 MPV opened for pre-orders in July this year. The Mona L03 had its global launch in Munich, Germany, on July 16, making it Xpeng's first global model to debut simultaneously in China and Europe, with sales planned in 64 overseas markets. It starts at 123,800 yuan ($18,390) in China, where both BEV and EREV versions are offered, while the BEV version starts at €35,600 in Europe. Xpeng is targeting younger buyers with the Mona L05 SUV to help boost sales.
