Volunteers Say Gibran Will Soon Show High School-Equivalent Certificate

A volunteer group supporting Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka says he will soon make public a certificate equivalent to an Indonesian senior high school diploma, according to CNN Indonesia. Andi Azwan, chairman of Relawan Militan Gibran 08 Nusantara, said the document would be produced "as soon as possible" but declined to give a firm date when asked, saying only that people should wait for the announcement.

The question of Gibran's secondary education has drawn attention since the Constitutional Court (MK) said it found no convincing evidence that he holds a foreign diploma, certificate or qualification that could be recognized as equivalent to at least a high school graduation. Andi argued it would have been impossible for Gibran to complete an undergraduate degree without an A Level certificate or an Advanced Diploma, documents he described as equivalent to finishing high school in Indonesia.

Speaking after visiting former president Joko Widodo's home in Sumber, Solo, Central Java, on Monday, Andi set out Gibran's educational path as he understands it. He said Gibran attended SMP Negeri 1 Surakarta, then studied at Orchid Park Secondary School in Singapore, where he earned an O Level certificate — which Andi said corresponds to grade 10 or 11, not grade 12. Gibran then entered a Pathway program, which Andi said issues only a certificate of attendance, used to register for diploma or bachelor programs at MDIS.
