SAIC Volkswagen has launched the ID. Era 8X, an extended-range electric SUV, in China across four trim levels. Guide prices run from 226,800 to 289,800 yuan, with limited-time promotional pricing starting at 206,800 yuan. The top battery version claims up to 1,602 km of combined CLTC range and uses Momenta's R7 driving model.
SAIC Volkswagen officially launched the ID. Era 8X on October 12, 2026, introducing the brand's new extended-range electric SUV to the Chinese market in four trim levels. Official guide prices range from 226,800 yuan (about 33,900 USD) to 289,800 yuan (43,300 USD), while a limited-time promotional offer brings the range down to between 206,800 yuan (30,900 USD) and 269,800 yuan (40,300 USD).
The SUV's range comes from what the company calls a Golden Extended-Range System built on the EA211 engine, which uses Miller cycle technology and a Porsche-style VTG variable geometry turbocharger. It produces a peak torque of 660 N·m, enough for a 0-100 km/h time of 4.6 seconds. Two battery options are offered on an 800V high-voltage platform: a 51.1 kWh LFP pack from Zenergy and a 65.2 kWh NCM pack from CATL. The larger battery delivers 451 km of CLTC pure electric range (365 km WLTP) and a combined range of up to 1,602 km CLTC, or 1,298 km WLTP.
At 5,020 mm long, 1,997 mm wide and 1,750 mm tall, the ID. Era 8X rides on a 2,970 mm wheelbase. Its styling includes a full-width Universal Light Wing light strip, L-shaped daytime running lights and headlights with a six-core high-energy design that supports dynamic effects for status updates and welcome ceremonies. Short front and rear overhangs and a window-to-body ratio of nearly 1:2 are intended to keep the proportions low-slung rather than bulky.
Inside, the vehicle uses the Yunqi smart cockpit with what the outlet describes as an industry-first Smart Surface magic screen, along with dual high-definition displays for driver and front passenger and a windshield head-up display. Comfort equipment includes Nappa full-grain leather, zero-gravity front seats with 10-point massage, heating and ventilation for both rows, and a 12-litre dual-opening smart refrigerator.
For assisted driving, the ID. Era 8X carries LiDAR and runs on the Momenta R7 world model. The chassis side combines the Xingyun intelligent chassis with a closed-loop dual-chamber air suspension offering 150 mm of adjustment range. CarNewsChina reported the launch details, including the pricing and specifications, on October 12, 2026.
