Vehicle Plunges 200 Feet Off I-15 in Cajon Pass, Fatal Crash Reported

A fatal crash was reported in the Cajon Pass early Sunday morning after a vehicle went off Interstate 15 and dropped roughly 200 feet down a cliff, according to the California Highway Patrol incident logs cited by Victor Valley News. The initial call came in at about 5:53 a.m. near Applewhite Road and Keenbrook Road.

The person who reported the crash told dispatchers a vehicle had flown off the freeway, but according to the dispatch information, the caller was screaming and could not describe the vehicle or explain how it ended up where it did. A responding CHP unit found the vehicle about 200 feet below the roadway at approximately 6:39 a.m.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department was contacted to request the coroner, which dispatch records show happened by 7:25 a.m. The deceased person's identity, how many people were in the vehicle, and what led up to the crash were not available in the dispatch information released at the time.

The stretch of I-15 through Cajon Pass is a heavily traveled route linking the Victor Valley and the High Desert with the San Bernardino area. The crash shut down or slowed traffic in the area during the morning hours, though specific lane or closure details were not immediately reported.
