Two people were killed in a three-vehicle accident along the Federal Highway at KM18.2 early Monday (Oct 12), according to Petaling Jaya police. Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shamsudin Mamat said the crash occurred at about 12.20am. The driver and a passenger, both in their 20s, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations found that the car, driven by a local man in his 20s, was travelling from Shah Alam towards Kuala Lumpur when it allegedly lost control and struck the highway barrier on the right. The impact then led to a collision involving two other cars travelling behind the vehicle, Shamsudin said.
The driver and his passenger sustained serious injuries and died before they could be treated. Two other passengers in the car, described as friends of the victims, suffered bodily injuries in the crash.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. Shamsudin said investigations are ongoing.
Authorities have appealed for witnesses to come forward. They are asked to contact traffic investigating officer Insp Mohd Nazar Md Kasim at 012 565 3395, or to approach the nearest police station to assist with the investigation.
