Smart #2 debuts in Paris at 19,990 EUR as two-seat EV revival
Smart unveiled the all-new Smart #2 at the Paris Motor Show, a two-door, two-seat electric compact that revives the spirit of the original Smart Fortwo. European pre-orders open at 19,990 EUR, while the limited Couture Edition launched in China at 112,999 yuan.
Smart took the wraps off the all-new Smart #2 at the Paris Motor Show on Monday, the compact EV's global debut. The brand also opened European pre-orders at 19,990 EUR, equivalent to about 22,400 USD, and simultaneously put a China-only Couture Edition on sale. The car marks a return to the two-door, two-seater formula of the original Smart Fortwo.
The Couture Edition is priced at 112,999 yuan (roughly 16,900 USD) in China and is capped at 999 units. Smart said buyers who order immediately can expect delivery before the end of the year. Pricing for the remaining Chinese variants will be announced in November, according to carnewschina.com.
Visually, the #2 pairs LED daytime running lights, projector headlamps and a capsule-patterned grille with a footprint small enough for city duty. The Couture Edition sets itself apart with a Matte Cloud White and Corona Gold two-tone finish, gold-accented grille detailing and matching badging. It rolls on 16-inch gold-finished Sky Dome wheels with a staggered setup of 185/50 R16 tyres at the front and 205/45 R16 at the rear. At the back, Smart fitted a roof spoiler, irregular circular taillights with dual-strip signatures and a split-type tailgate.
Inside, the cabin follows what Smart calls an S-Shape water-ripple design language. A large floating infotainment screen running the Flyme Link system anchors the cockpit, joined by a digital instrument cluster and a three-spoke steering wheel.
The #2 is driven by a rear-mounted single motor producing 60 kW (80 hp), fed by a 35.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate pack from CATL. Smart quotes a CLTC range of 410 km, which translates to 332 km on the WLTP cycle.
Chassis hardware includes MacPherson struts up front and a five-link independent rear suspension, with a minimum turning radius of 3.35 meters — a figure aimed squarely at tight urban maneuvering. The Paris reveal positions Smart's smallest model as its entry point in Europe, with Chinese pricing for the broader lineup still to come.
