Police hunt e-bike rider after girl, 11, seriously hurt in Old Swan

An 11-year-old girl has been taken to hospital with serious facial injuries after she was struck by an e-bike rider in Old Swan, Liverpool, according to Merseyside Police. Officers were called to the incident outside Hollywood Bowl at Liverpool Shopping Park on Edge Lane at about 13:30 BST on Saturday. Police described the rider as a male delivery rider who was involved in a collision with a pedestrian.

A police spokesperson said the e-bike rider apologised to the girl and then rode off from the scene. The force has launched an appeal to trace him as part of its investigation into the alleged hit and run. No arrest has been reported and the rider's identity has not been released.

PC Chris Lightfoot, of Merseyside Police's Roads Policing Unit, urged the rider to make contact with officers. He said the force was appealing to the rider to come forward to help with enquiries and asked him to get in touch as soon as possible. Lightfoot also said police wanted to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision, including events leading up to it.

The girl was treated in hospital following the incident, which happened in a busy retail and leisure area of the city. Police have not provided further detail on her condition beyond describing her injuries as serious. The shopping park is a well-known complex on a main route through the Old Swan area of Liverpool.

Investigators are asking anyone who saw the collision, or who has information about the rider, to contact Merseyside Police. Witnesses can also submit story information to the BBC, which has asked readers to follow its Merseyside coverage on social media and via WhatsApp.
