Man found dead near Kota Tinggi TNB substation; vandalism suspected
A man was found dead near a Tenaga Nasional Bhd substation in Kota Tinggi, with tools including a grinder and pipe wrench nearby. Police suspect he died while attempting to steal electrical cables, while TNB says the incident is believed to be linked to vandalism.
Tenaga Nasional Bhd suspects vandalism was involved in an incident at its substation along Jalan Besar Felda Adela in Kota Tinggi, where a man was found dead early today. The utility said its technical team was sent to the site after it received a report of an electrical accident involving a member of the public on Oct 12. TNB pledged to give authorities its full support and cooperation in their investigations.
Kota Tinggi police chief Superintendent Yusof Othman said police received a report at 6.46am about an unconscious man at Km 21 of the road towards Sungai Rengit. The man was found about 20m from the roadside, near the substation.
Several tools were discovered nearby, including a hoe, a cordless grinder, a metal hammer, a pipe wrench and a headlamp. Yusof said the man is suspected to have died while attempting to steal electrical cables.
TNB warned the public against tampering with or approaching electrical installations, saying such actions could result in serious injury or death. The company said it would assist the authorities with their investigations.
