Indonesia's embassy in London has facilitated the return of 13 Indonesian crew members who survived a fishing vessel accident off northern Scotland. The crew of FV Genesis A19 were rescued after the boat ran aground near the Island of Hoy on Oct. 1 and arrived home on Oct. 10.
Thirteen Indonesian crew members of the fishing vessel FV Genesis A19 have returned home after surviving a grounding off northern Scotland, according to KBRI London. The embassy said the crew arrived in Indonesia on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, following the accident in waters north of Scotland. The vessel ran aground on rocks near the Island of Hoy on Oct. 1, 2026.
The Indonesian sailors were rescued by local search and rescue teams along with crew members from other countries, the embassy said. After the rescue, they were evacuated to Kirkwall on Orkney Island, where they spent several days before being moved to Manchester as the departure point for their journey back to Indonesia.
According to KBRI London, the trip to Manchester took nearly three days using a ferry, bus and train, with the crew arriving on Oct. 8 accompanied by representatives of the ship's owner.
The embassy said it monitored the crew's condition from the outset and worked to ensure their employment rights were fulfilled, including wage and compensation payments from the employer. KBRI London also issued replacement travel documents for crew members who lost their passports during the incident.
With cooperation from multiple parties, all the crew were successfully repatriated, and the manning agent will help them continue their journeys to their home regions. KBRI London expressed appreciation for the support of the ship's owner, the manning agent, Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Transportation in handling and bringing the crew home.
