Jakarta Police: Two Suspects Lured 19-Year-Old to Her Death Over Phone and Cash

Police in Makasar, East Jakarta, have described the sequence of events that led to the killing of a 19-year-old woman known by the initials KDA. Polda Metro Jaya spokesperson Kombes Budi Hermanto said one suspect, KDN, contacted the victim to lure her to the boarding house where the crime took place. Budi said the victim and the suspects had no relationship, according to police statements reported Sunday.

The alleged motive was economic. According to Budi, both suspects intended to take control of the victim's mobile phone and Rp250,000 in cash she had. He said the two suspects wanted to seize those items.

The victim was found dead on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 8. Her hands and feet had been tied with raffia rope, she had a wound on the left side of her face, and a shirt was tied around her neck.

Investigators from Subdit Jatanras Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya arrested two suspects. KDN was arrested on Thursday night in Cipinang Muara, East Jakarta, while ATW was arrested in Jatiranggon, Bekasi City. Both are now being held at Polda Metro Jaya.

The suspects are being processed under Article 459 of the Criminal Code and/or Article 458 paragraphs (1) and (3) and/or Article 479 paragraph (3) as referred to in Law No. 1 of 2023. Police also seized evidence including raffia rope, cloth, clothing, a knife, duct tape, a mobile phone, and a motorcycle. Investigators said they are still completing the investigation, including examinations of witnesses and the suspects.
