Indonesia, Egypt Agree Joint Investment Fund, Push for Trade Pact
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto hosted Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for a state visit at the Merdeka Palace in Central Jakarta, where the two leaders agreed to deepen cooperation across a range of sectors, with economic ties at the center. Trade and investment topped the agenda, according to joint statements delivered after their talks on Sunday.
Prabowo welcomed the creation of a Joint Investment Fund to be set up by the two countries' investment bodies. On Indonesia's side, that institution is the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency, known as Danantara. The fund is intended to channel capital into strategic projects developed jointly by the two nations.
Speaking at a joint press conference with El-Sisi, Prabowo said he welcomed the initiative to establish the fund through the two countries' investment institutions in order to drive investment into strategic projects. The two sides also backed the creation of an Economic Partnership Agreement between Indonesia and Egypt, which they said would open wider market access and expand business-to-business engagement.
Beyond trade and finance, Indonesia and Egypt agreed to strengthen maritime and fisheries cooperation, with a focus on sustainable development, conservation of marine resources and curbing illegal fishing. The two countries will also exchange knowledge and expertise in the sector.
Prabowo recalled that during his visit to Egypt in April 2025, the two governments had agreed to raise bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership. The Joint Investment Fund and the proposed trade agreement build on that framework.
