Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Region III Denpasar has issued a high-wave warning for Bali waters over a four-day window from October 13 to 16, 2026, according to bali.idntimes.com. Waves in the affected areas are forecast to reach between 2.5 and 4 meters. The warning covers the southern part of the Bali Strait, the waters south of Bali island, the Badung Strait and the southern section of the Lombok Strait.
The agency classifies those conditions as risky for several types of vessels. For fishing boats, risk thresholds are wind speeds of 15 knots and waves of 1.25 meters; for barges, 16 knots and 1.5 meters; and for ferries, 21 knots and 2.5 meters. The southern zone's forecast wave heights exceed each of those limits.
A separate band of rougher seas, with waves of 1.25 to 2.5 meters, is expected in the waters north of Bali island and the northern part of the Lombok Strait. According to the report, those conditions carry risk for fishing boats at 15 knots and 1.25-meter waves, and for barges at 16 knots and 1.5-meter waves.
Wind patterns during the period differ between the two halves of the island. North of Bali, winds are expected to blow from the northeast to southeast at speeds of 4 to 25 knots, while south of Bali they are forecast from the east to south, also at 4 to 25 knots.
The agency also published current-speed data for October 14, 2026. Currents were estimated at 0.93 to 1.08 knots in the waters north of Bali island, 1.70 to 2.34 knots in the Badung Strait, 0.89 to 1.02 knots in the southern Bali Strait, and 1.02 to 1.70 knots in the waters south of Bali.
In the Lombok Strait, currents on the same date were projected at 0.89 to 1.63 knots in the northern section and 1.63 to 3.06 knots in the southern section, the highest figure in the agency's data. The warning remains in effect through October 16, 2026.
